I think it is a weird part of the eagle sense thing, since we will be able to see the paths what guards walk we might be able to see people who left a deep "scar" or impression in time, so this may mean we will be able to see dead people (Leonardo da Vinci???, he died in 1512 and Brotherhood ends in 1509 so he may die or we see him trough the eagle session thing if my theory is right) like Desmond did with the bleeding effect.
