Sure but its much more strenuous at that age, plus the hookblade meant he had to use more effort to pull himself up when he was holding on to something with just the hook and maintain his balance and momentum(remember the caves and such when he was looking for memory seals?). Also don't forget that the guy had received multiple severe wounds prior and in any normal person that would be a serious issue.
