While there were definitely very frequent bombings throughout Europe, they weren't dropping them 24/7. The ancestor could easily take cover during blitzes and continue when they've subsided. That could even make an interesting free-running element. Imagine coming out of your shelter after they've finished and seeing your environment completely changed. And the reason that it's shown so often in games is that it's one of the most historically impactful times in the past few centuries. I will say, though, your other two points are pretty solid.
