Oh, I don't think it should be about guns, I just think that Desmond needs to find a way to deal with enemies who use guns in a serious capacity. The Papal Guard et al were doing so in their own timeline, but that really wouldn't compare in any tactical sense to people who are skilled with the modern alternatives.

It's a tricky problem. If Desmond faces any modern Templars (and he should), they run the risk of everything turning into a Metal Gear clone - both serieses deserve better than that. If Desmond doesn't face modern Templars, then all he's contributing is another boring obstacle course.
