They weren't going to waste resources on simply making Desmond believe they were going to capture him; they did use guns and tear gas when they were actively killing Assassins in the Assassin hideouts throughout the world after the Mentor's death in 2000, however (as seen in the Deluxe Edition of The Fall). Plus, luckily "i mean cmon how retarded is that" wasn't rash at all. Shotgun9009, speak in normal English.
