World War II seems to get so much emphasis in the side-content so that they don't need to make a full game out of it, to me. One of the emails in the game talks about the complications when exploring the lives of someone who lived in the 20th century and beyond because of the driving - more specifically, because of the semi-catatonic state people enter when driving, which blurs their memory. So Abstergo is avoiding the memories of the people living in the time where cars had become a normal sight on the streets.
