What is it to be dead? In essence Juno is also dead and has been for thousands of years but she saved her perserved her mind in the Grand Temple similar to the way Clay was in the Black Room. Many have speculated this is the same with Desmond, though in the literal sense he is dead but his mental capacity and memories can still be saved somewhere.
