The way I feel about this is that Ubisoft have created this lore-based universe partly on research and partly on creativity. To call one character "historical" or "real" would only serve to diminish the value of other such "non-historical" characters, even if they play a more important role in the games.

In this regard, everyone detailed in this universe is a character in their own right and everyone in the games should be treated equally and based on their own merits, fictional or factual.
