WW2 could be a good setting, but only in France within the "French Resistance". During the nazi occupation, the resistants were scattered throughout France mostly in the south and they organized secret missions and blew up factories, assassinated nazi militants... So it would really fit  to the AC lore. One of the main resistant groups was the "Maquis du Vercors" and their base of operation was located in the Vercors plateau. But they got compromised and the nazis infiltrated it one night and killed all of them. It would be interesting to see this changed into the Assassion HQ being compromised. We could also go to Nazi Germany and maybe help some of the assassination attempts on Hitler and be finally the one who delivered the killing blow. So there are plenty of things they can use to make a really good AC game in WW2.
