Ezio, my friend! How may I be of service?

Ezio Auditore escaping a Borgia Tower after igniting it.

Borgia Towers were structures found within Rome, used by the Borgia as a display of dominance over the city. A Borgia Captain was assigned to each tower to serve as a patrol and to maintain control of each district. In order to liberate Rome and humiliate the Borgia, Ezio Auditore killed each tower's Captain and then burned down the Tower itself as a demonstration to the people that the Borgia's oppressive rule was coming to an end.

Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood

To weaken the Borgia's control over the city of Rome, Ezio Auditore must kill the Borgia Captain assigned to each tower, and then burn down the tower itself before performing a leap of faith to escape the burning structure. The majority of Captains were not afraid to engage Ezio in combat, however some of them fled from the battle. If the Captain successfully fled to his tower, Ezio had wait until the Captain regrouped with his soldiers at the next guard shift before he could strike again. In addition, Towers also served as view points for the surrounding area.

Once Ezio had destroyed a Borgia tower, it became an Assassin Tower, from which Ezio was able to manage his guild at that location. Also, for each tower destroyed, Ezio was able to recruit one more potential Assassin into the guild. After a Borgia tower was destroyed, the district around it would begin to show signs of civilized life returning; crime would decrease, as bandits would start to leave and the number of guards in that area would decrease. Citizens would also begin to have a more prominent presence in the area. Shops in the area would then be available to be renovated, and landmarks in that area became purchasable.[1][2]

Trivia

  • Borgia towers are surrounded by many sparrows, whereas view points are circled by a single eagle, one of the symbols of the Assassins.
  • If a Borgia Captain escapes, the player may quit the game and reload their save position to make the Captain 'reappear' instead of waiting 12 in-game hours.
  • If you kill a Borgia Captain and die before burning the Borgia tower (falling from a high building for example) you'll have to go through the process of killing him again.
  • When the final Borgia tower becomes accessible, the Borgia captain will be on top of the tower. If you send your apprentices to assassinate him, they'll appear as if they've teleported and kill him, but stand still until they're out of sight, even when the tower is burning.
  • All Borgia Captains with the last name "da Siena" will flee, as their description in the database suggests so.
  • Burning a Borgia tower will automatically activate its view point, saving the player the effort of having to activate it separately.
  • The crossbow will not kill a Borgia Captain with one shot. The pistol, however, will do so.
  • After the destruction of a Borgia tower, Vigilantes appear to assist Ezio and hold back guards.
