Aveline de Grandpré was a metis Assassin of French and African heritage, who lived in the area of New Orleans, at the end of the French and Indian War.[1] She was mentored by Agate, with whom she had a conflicting relationship.[2]
Biography
Aveline was born to a wealthy French merchant and an African placée bride, and occupied a position of wealth and respect within the city. She was raised with care and privilege, even after her mother mysteriously vanished and her father had remarried. In 1759, she joined the Assassin Order. [3]
Equipment and skills
Aveline was a skilled freerunner, who was able to navigate through the urban cityscape and natural landscape, such as the Bayou, with ease.
Her fighting style included the use of various weapons, such as a whip, firearms, swords, knives, a blowpipe, a sugar-cane machete and hidden blades, with her possessing the ability to dual wield various combinations of them.[2]
Personality and characteristics
As she grew, Aveline developed into a strong-willed young woman who began to notice the contrasts within society, like freedom and enslavement, or wealth and poverty. Much like Connor, she was torn between the different values that she had inherited from her parents, and as such, she formed her own, which included a vehement stance against slavery.[2]
Trivia
- Aveline's name originates from the Latin name "Avis" – meaning "bird".
- Aveline is the first female protagonist in the Assassin's Creed series, who is also the only protagonist to wear a hat instead of the symbolic hood of the Assassins, though it retained a beak-shaped tip.
