Wasn't Connor born after they settled America? Because the way showed the first gameplay trailer it looked like he meant only the British. But I could be wrong.
I don't see why Connor would care about the tax. He a stone cold assassin who doesn't play by the rules. lol. jk. I think Connor doesn't care really why the Americans are fighting the British just as long as he gets the Templars, which seem to be more prominent on the British side.
That would make for a good twist in the story.
