I think what I'd like to see would be a protagonist who works hard before they become an Assassin, but never finds that their efforts are enough to earn the attention of anyone important.
It would be kind of nice to see the contrast in them wanting glory for themselves, but knowing that they can't have it because the Assassins are a low profile organization, so they could maybe try and bring someone into the spotlight.
After that, if they were betrayed by that same person they assisted, it could provide a nice twist.
In regards to the culture, I'd just like to see how the ideals back then differed from the Western world.
