I rise for peace and for the legacy of those that died on either side and for the peacemakers that risked it all to ensure a better future for the generations to come. I rise for those that fought on either side who now seek peace. I write this now in the comfort of peace times but know the fire that burns each time that someone makes a childish remark about the long rode and hard journey of those who struggled against all odds to ensure the peace we now have.

I rise for the history of my grandfather who took part in the 1916 uprising, for the experience of growing up in a country that experienced the horror, the uncertainty and the ignorance of war, that were "the Troubles". I rise for the next generation and I rise for peace. No more conflict, no more loss for loved ones on either side of the border over nonsense of religious indifference and intolerance. I rise for the children of the next generation each time I hear an ignorant remark about the righteous cause of driving out a people that in reality are part of this nation too, who grew up here and who when it comes down to it share the same values and desires as those who seek them harm all for an distorted sense of patriotism. I rise for those who died in hunger strikes to stop the injustice of a police state that in reality oppressed both sides just as much and most important I rise for the continued peace that we now finally have in a particular part of this island.

I rise for peace and for the legacy of those that died on either side and for the peacemakers that risked it all to ensure a better future for the generations to come. I rise for those that fought on either side who now seek peace. I write this now in the comfort of peace times but know the fire that burns each time that someone makes a childish remark about the long road and hard journey of those who struggled against all odds to ensure the peace we now have.

I rise and stand defiant against those that would rob the next generation of peace.
