Melanie did not know about the Templars prior to her official induction in early 2014. We don't know if she worked on Liberation, and she could've easily dismissed the Templars seen in the Golden Age of Piracy as some wacky group that died out. Darby Mcdevitt also confirmed that Olivier Garneau was the only one at Abstergo Entertainment to know of the Templar Order in 2013.
