Abraham Ortelius (1527 – 1598) was a Brabantian cartographer and geographer. He was the creator of what is considered the first modern world atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum.[1]
Legacy
At least two of Ortelius' illustrations made it into Peter Beckford's collections nearly seventy-years later: one of the maps from the atlas' first printing in 1570,[2] and a detail featuring Magellan's ship, Victoria.[3] Both of these would eventually be acquired by the Welsh pirate Edward Kenway.[4]
Appearances
- Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag (mentioned in Database entry only)
