A Ship of His Own was a virtual representation of one of Adéwalé's genetic memories, relived by a research analyst at Abstergo Entertainment through the Animus.
Description
Adéwalé met with Augustin Dieufort and collaborated a plan to steal a ship.
Dialogue
- Augustin: Every day, more slaves arrive.
- Adéwalé: Human cargo makes for lucrative trade. I once hoped men of education could be made to see the cost. But profit makes them ignorant.
- Augustin: With the right vessel, you could intercept the slave ships before they arrive. Or you would be free to leave. You have already paid more than your share to the (Maroons) of Saint-Domingue. And I am no master, I cannot choose for you. This brigantine could meet your needs, if you could relieve it of its crew. Bastienne has volunteered her women to draw the men away. Or you could set that tower alight to distract them.
- Adéwalé: Excellent options, all of them.
Augustin handed Adéwalé some firecrackers.
- Adéwalé: What's this?
- Augustin: Firecrackers. Some of your recruits salvaged them. It's only right that you should use them.
- Adéwalé: Excellent.
- Augustin: Once you send me a signal, I will send our men to join you.
Adéwalé headed for the harbor and used a powder keg to light the watchtower on fire. With the guards distracted, Adéwalé climbed to the top of the Experto Crede and signaled Augustin. The Maroons boarded the vessel, and helped Adéwalé take it out to sea.
- Adéwalé: Augustin! I’m surprised to see you here. Are you not needed in the headquarters?
- Augustin: I can train another to take my place there. But when you are gone, who will captain this ship? You must teach me.
- Adéwalé: Aye, I will. But you must not call me Captain. You are the leader of these men.
- Augustin: But you have earned the right. At sea, you will be my captain.
The Experto Crede began patrolling the West Indies in search of slave ships.
- Augustin: How did you come by your knowledge of the sea, Adé?
- Adéwalé: It was my first true home. Buccaneers offered me my first glimpse of freedom and I took it. I learned by observation.
- Augustin: They would not teach you?
- Adéwalé: Nor accepted me as their captain once I had proven myself. Only the Assassins offered me real authority.
- Augustin: You were born in Trinidad?
- Adéwalé: Aye, on a plantation.
- Augustin: Are there not (Maroons) there who could use your help? I know we are not alone in Saint-Domingue to fight for independence.
- Adéwalé: There could well be. I have not returned to find out.
Outcome
Adéwalé acquired a new ship, the Experto Crede, and set sail to find a slave ship.
