Zoiontegoi Shipwreck

The Zoiontegoi Shipwreck was the site of a Roman shipwreck located in Herakleion Nome.

In 48 BCE, the ship was originally carrying a group of Roman hunters in the Nile, who were dispatched to capture animals for gladiator fights. However along the way, the ship crashed onto land, leaving the hunters stranded. One of the hunters refused to carry out the order and was thus imprisoned in a cage by his fellow Romans.[1]

Later on, the remaining soldiers were killed by a pack of lions, leaving the captured soldier stranded. However, he was later freed by the Medjay Bayek of Siwa who passed by along the way and eliminated the lions.[1]
