With Friends Like These is a memory in Assassin's Creed II.

Description

Ezio follows Jacopo de' Pazzi to the Roman Theater outside of San Gimignano, where he eavesdrops on a heated conversation between Rodrigo Borgia and Jacopo. Rorigo Borgia kills Jacopo because of his failures and says to Ezio,

"So sorry to have claimed your prize, Assassin!"

His men then make an futile attempt to kill Ezio. Ezio goes to the body of Jacopo and puts him to rest.

Dialogue

Ezio finds Jacopo leaving the church.

  • Ezio: If I can stay my blade long enough to follow him, he'll lead me to his Templar brothers. I'll have more names for my list...
  • Ezio: What's going on here? Are they late? They haven't seen me, this much I know...
  • Ezio: What are you and the others planning, Jacopo?
  • Ezio: Your letter mentioned Venezia... are there Templars there as well?

Jacopo arrives at the Theater. Rodrigo Borgia and Emilio Barbarigo are there waiting for him.

  • Jacopo: I am sorry, Maestro. I did all I could, but the Assassin proved too strong.
  • Rodrigo: Clearly. Else the others would be here with you. To say nothing of that fact that Firenze remains in Medici hands...
  • Jacopo: It's Francesco's fault! His impatience made him reckless! I tried to be the voice of reason....
  • Emilio: More like the voice of cowardice.
  • Jacopo: You're one to talk, Signor Barbarigo. Had you sent us quality weapons instead of this garbage you Venetians call ar--
  • Rodrigo: Enough! We put our faith in your family and you repay us with inaction and incompetence?! Then when asked to account for your failures, you make excuses and insult us?! How do you expect me to respond?
  • Jacopo: I don't know...
  • Rodrigo: It's alright. I do...

Rodrigo draws a blade and stabs Jacopo.

  • Jacopo: No... please... don't...
  • Emilio: (chuckles) Please don't what? (he pushes him to the ground)
  • Jacopo: I can... fix this. Only... spare me....
  • Rodrigo: No.

Rodrigo draws his sword and stabs Jacopo again, nearly killing him.

  • Rodrigo: What a mess. (to Ezio) So sorry to have claimed your prize, Assassin!

A pair of guards grab Ezio and bring him forth.

  • Rodrigo: Did you honestly think I wouldn't expect you to follow? That I didn't plan for it? We've been at this a lot longer than you. (to guards) Kill him.

Rodrigo and Emilio depart, leaving Ezio to the guards.

  • Ezio: I know you're only doing as you're told, so if you release me, I will spare your lives.
  • Gaurd: Ha! Listen to this--Ahhhh!

Ezio extends his Hidden Blade, stabbing the guard through the chin. He then stabs the other guard in the chest. The remaining gaurds then engage Ezio, but he defeats them. He then turns his attention towards the dying Jacopo and finishes him.

  • Ezio: Vai, amico, libero da fardelli e paure. (Go forward friend, unburdened and unafraid) Resquiescat en pace. (Rest in peace).

Outcome

All of the Pazzi Conspirators are dead, and Ezio adds Emilio Barbarigo to his list of targets.

Glitches

There is a glitch where Ezio can kill Jacopo without entering the memory corridor.

Select a weapon other than fists, throwing knives, hidden blade, or poison blade, and approach Jacopo until you see the control HUD display "Interact." Now back off a little until the control HUD displays "Attack." Face Jacopo and press the attack button to kill him with your selected weapon.

Pick up Jacopo's body and carry him to a well. When you dump him into the well, his body will slowly sink. Eventually, the game will stop modeling his body as he sinks out of existence. Don't worry - you can still complete the mission. Just go back to the interaction zone at the Roman Theater. It's marked as the red target on the mini-map. You'll see the control HUD change to "Interact" when you are in the right spot. Press the interact button to start the assassination animation and cutscene.

This process can be seen in the video below.
