The Village of Kausos was a small village situated on Kephallonia, the southeast corner of the Cursed Valley of Pali.
History
Around 431 BCE, the village was plagued by a sickness, which was dubbed as "blood fever". When the sickness got out of hand, a group of priests took things into their own hands by burning the village and killing its residents. Phoibe, whose friend Kynna lived in the village, enlisted the aid of the Spartan misthios to aid the villagers.[1]
Trivia
- The word καῦσος (kausos) is the ancient Greek word for fever, which was a symptom of malaria noted by Hippokrates.
