Thorstein the Red (c. 850 – 880/890), also known as Thorstein Olafsson, was a Viking chieftain active in Ireland and later Scotland during the 9th century.
Biography
Thorstein was born around 850 as the son of Olaf the White, King of Dublin, and Aud the Deep-minded, who was the daughter of Ketil Flatnose.[1] By 880, Thorstein was the leader of a gang. The Viking shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir captured him after her cousin Bárid mac Ímair was attacked by his men.[2]
