Septimius Severus (Latin: Lucius Septimius Severus Eusebes Pertinax Augustus; 145 – 211), also known as Severus, was Roman Emperor from 193 to his death. He was the founder of the Severan dynasty.
Biography
Following his Parthian victories, a triumphal arch was built in commemoration of the events. After he died, Septimius was succeeded by his sons Caracalla and Geta, who shortly shared rule as joint emperors before Caracalla had Geta killed.[1]
In early February 211, Severus arrived in Brittania to oversee the fortification and reoccupation of the Antonine wall, blatantly disregarding the previously established treaty of Marcus Aurelius. On 4 February, his Eboracum villa was infiltrated by the Hidden One magister Khloe who poisoned the emperor, fulfilling an assassination contract.[2]
