The Senussi (Arabic: السنوسية, romanized: as-Sanūssiyya) are a Muslim political-religious order and clan in Libya and surrounding regions founded in 1837.[1] In 1917, a group of Senussi mercenaries was hired to protect an Instruments of the First Will encampment in the Siwa Oasis, Egypt. Then armed with Ottoman weaponry, they were considered capable combatants and expert desert guerrillas.[2]
