The Sancaktar Hayrettin Mosque (Turkish: Sancaktar Hayrettin Câmîi) is part of a former Eastern Orthodox monastery in Constantinople, converted into a mosque by the Ottomans.
History[edit | edit source]
Prior to its conversion into a mosque, the church was an Eastern Orthodox church dating from the reign of Emperor Constantine I during the Byzantine period.[1] During the height of the Palaiologos era, the church was redesigned with Byzantine architecture.[2]
Trivia[edit | edit source]
- Sancaktar is Turkish for "standard-bearer".
