Rufus Putnam (9 April 1738 – 4 May 1824) was a military officer during the French and Indian War and a general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He was the half-brother of Israel Putnam.

In 1776, Putnam was selected to lead a reconnaissance mission into Harlem Heights. The Assassin Ratonhnhaké:ton sent a group of Assassins to discreetly protect him under the cover of the trees.
