The Royal Hall in York was the main meeting place of the council of Jorvik during the Anglo-Saxon period.
History
Circa 874, the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir escorted her friend Ljufvina Bjarmarsdottir to the hall to safety while escaping from men dispatched by the Red Hand. There, Eivor met Ljufvina's husband Hjorr and was brought to meet the council of Jorvik to discuss the Order of the Ancients and the Red Hand. Eivor greeted the council, which consisted of King Ricsige of Northumbria, Audun, Faravid as well as Hjorr himself, and pledged her aid to help them rid the city of the Order's influence.[1]
Two years later in 876, the hall was where Halfdan Ragnarsson held his coronation as King of Northumbria following Ricsige's betrayal and death at the Magnis Fortress.[2]
