Robert de Sorbon (9 October 1201 – 15 August 1274) was a French theologian, the chaplain of Louis IX of France and founder of the College of Sorbonne in Paris.

After having struggled to become a doctor of theology, Sorbon sought to facilitate the education of disadvantaged children like himself. King Louis IX offered him a house on the rue Coupe-Gueule along with a few of the King's own outbuildings, where Sorbon subsequently built his college. The Sorbonne district of Paris would later be named after him.[1]
