Richard Cromwell (4 October 1626 – 12 July 1712) was Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland from 1658 to 1659.
After the death of his father, Oliver Cromwell, in 1658, Richard succeeded him as the head of the Commonwealth republic. Richard proved a weak and powerless leader however, abdicating in 1659. This allowed George Monck to begin the restoration of the English monarchy with King Charles II at its front.
