Pyramid of Menkaure

The Pyramid of Menkaure is an ancient Egyptian pyramid located in the Giza pyramid complex. The smallest of the three pyramids in the complex, it was constructed around 2510 BCE during the reign of the pharaoh Menkaure. Upon his death, he was later buried in it along with his wife and sister, Khamerernebty II.[1]

History

In 48 BCE, the Medjay Bayek of Siwa travelled to the pyramid in search of Corteseos' notes and his heron feather after a little girl named Neema told him she had hidden them in the pyramid. Exploring the pyramid, Bayek discovered Khamerernebty II's sarcophagus and deciphered an Old Kingdom stele located at an upper chamber.[2]

Exploring further, Bayek was able to recover his feather and stopped an attack by Neema's brother named Apheru. The boy directed the Medjay to a bandit camp near the Hemon Mastaba, and Bayek left the pyramid after discovering Menkaure's main chamber which contained his sarcophagus.[2]
