The 1969 Apollo 11 Moon landing was a Templar plot spearheaded by US President Lyndon B. Johnson in order to retrieve a Piece of Eden - an Apple - which was located on the Moon.
Recovering the Apple
President John F. Kennedy had plans for a joint venture to the Moon with the Soviets. The Templars knew however that an Apple of Eden could be found on the Moon, which they did not want to fall into Soviet possession. Thus they formulated a plot to assassinate Kennedy and replace him with Johnson, allowing them to reclaim the Apple.
Buzz Aldrin procured the Apple, making the mission a success. The astronauts then returned to Earth with the Piece of Eden in possession, where it was delivered to Abstergo Industries, though this was never revealed publicly.
Assassins' discovery
Information about the event was later discovered by Clay Kaczmarek after he hacked Abstergo's files, during his time as Subject 16. He later placed the uncovered information onto the Animus' memory core which was implanted into the Animus 2.0, as the tenth glyph puzzle that Desmond Miles would later find during his time in the Animus, reliving the memories of his ancestor Ezio Auditore da Firenze, at the Hideout alongside Lucy Stillman, Shaun Hastings and Rebecca Crane.[1]
