The Prosphorion and Neorion, the commercial port and the naval dockyard of Constantinople, were on the north coast of the city.[1] During the Ottoman era, all important shipping, apart from a small fleet of war galleys, used harbors in the Golden Horn.

History

By the early 5th century, the Prosphorion and Neorion harbors were built on the Golden Horn,[2][3] while the harbor of Julian was nearby at the mouth of the Sea of Marmara.[4]
