A poignard is a long, lightweight thrusting knife with a smoothly tapering, acutely pointed blade and crossguard, historically worn by the upper class, noblemen, or the knighthood. Its slender tapered blade makes it ideal for deep-cutting stabbing attacks.
During the 15th century, the Spanish Brotherhood of Assassins utilized these knives in their arsenal and forged it in their hideout in Sierra de Cazorla.[1] Templar agent Gillian McCarthy, active in North American colonies, was also known to have favored poignards small enough to be hidden in a purse.[2]
