Pleistoanax was King of Sparta who ruled from 458 BCE alongside Archidamos. In 445 BCE, Pleistoanax was caught taking a bribe from the Athenian statesman Perikles. As such, he was exiled from Sparta and was succeeded by his son Pausanias.[1]

By 429 BCE, the news of the Pleistoanax's exile had reached Myrrine and her daughter Kassandra, who were both relatives of the Pleistoanax through King Leonidas.[2]

Behind the scenes

Historically, Pleistoanax was recalled to return and rule Sparta in 426 BCE, taking over his son Pausanias. He would rule Sparta until his death in 409 BCE, succeeded once again by Pausanias.
