Phillipe Chartrand is a researcher working for Abstergo Entertainment. In 2013, he was assigned to study the life and memories of Bernard Kenway, father of the, in Philippe's eyes, decidedly more exciting pirate Edward Kenway.

The Abstergo Entertainment research analyst can discover emails sent between him and another employee, Jennifer Tam, while hacking Abstergo Entertainment computers. Over several days, the two discuss the research analyst, Edward and Bernard Kenway, and the cute barista working in the building lobby.

Over the course of the email exchange, both Jennifer and Philippe become increasingly anxious about the rash of hackings throughout Abstergo Entertainment, and the company's aggressive response.
