Pelopeion

Pelopeion was a temenos in the Sanctuary of Olympia in Elis, Greece.

History[edit | edit source]

Pelopeion was named after and dedicated to Pelops, the man whose name also inspired the name Peloponnese. In Pelops' honor, a black ram was sacrificed at the Pelopeion annually.[1] The shrine was also allegedly his tomb. [citation needed]

During the 428 BCE Olympic Games, the shrine was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra.[2]
