In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first human woman created by Hephaistos on the instructions of Zeus. She came to be as each of the Twelve Gods gave her a unique gift.
Influence
In 5th century BCE, a region of Malis was named after Pandora as Pandora's Cove. Within the region was located Myson Cave, wherein laid Hephaistos' Workshop, and curious architecture.[1]
During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra obtained a sword called Pandora's Kopis, claimed to be one of the gifts gods gave Pandora.[1]
Trivia
- According to the myths, the god Hephaistos wrought Pandora as the first human woman, at the request of the god Zeus.
- Pandora's name is a combination of the Greek words παν- (pan-) meaning 'all' and δῶρον (dôron) meaning 'gift'. The name can thus be translated as 'all-gifted' or 'all-giving'.
