Palatine Hill

The Palatine Hill (Latin: Collis Palatinus, Italian: Colle Palatino) is the centralmost of seven hills of Rome, and one of the most ancient parts of the city. During the Renaissance, it was located in the Antico District.

History

The hill stands at 40 meters above the Roman Forum, looking down upon it on one side, and upon the Circus Maximus on the other.

According to Roman mythology, the hill was the location of the cave known as Lupercal where Romulus and Remus were found and kept alive by a she-wolf.

On 24 January 41, The Assassin Leonius killed the Roman Emperor Caligula in an underground corridor beneath Palatine Hill.

During the early 16th century, the House of Borgia exerted their influence over the citizens of the district through the Borgia Tower. By 1502, Ezio Auditore da Firenze rescued some slaves who holding by Silvestro Sabbatini. Next year, Ezio during his quest to liberate Rome from the Borgia rule, he killed the Borgia captain, Prospero da Siena, and burned down the tower.

About 1506, Niccolò Machiavelli tasked Lo Sparviero to assassinate the Borgia Agents. They killed four Assassin apprentices early that day. Lo Sparviero successfully revenge for the apprentices and retrieved the chest that they try to retrieve. He also eliminated two of the Followers of Romulus in the hill.

Trivia

• In Assassin's Creed: Identity, the position of the Borgia tower is different from the Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, the tower is closer to the Acquedotto Claudia. The Roman Forum is more simplified. The underground corridor was sealed that can't enter.
