Nyoiji Daiji Temple

Nyoiji Daiji Temple was a rundown Buddhist temple situated in the Hills of Meeting in eastern Yamashiro, Japan.

History

In 1582, the Kakushiba ikki members Fujibayashi Naoe and Yasuke visited the temple and met its monk, Mamushi. The old monk lambasted about his duty of disproving claims of yōkai around Japan and requested their help to investigate some of the rumors he had overheard or been told of. The pair agreed to assist him and returned to the temple at night after completing their investigations.[1]

However, the temple was quiet as Naoe and Yasuke entered and found Mamushi dead, with a woman standing over him. Recognizing her as the woman from Kabasaka Village, she turned around, revealed herself to be an Ao Andon, a true yōkai, and attacked the pair. Naoe and Yasuke managed to defeat the Ao Andon, who then turned into blue smoke and vanished, leaving both Naoe and Yasuke puzzled about the nature of the encounter.[1]
