| '''Nathaniel Greene''' (1742 – 1786) was an [[United States|American]] military officer who served under Commander-in-Chief [[George Washington]] in the [[Continental Army]] during the [[American Revolutionary War]]. He was with the army in the winter of 1777–17778 when they were encamped at [[Valley Forge]]. Thousands were dying from starvation, cold, and diseases due to the lack of food and poor housing, and Greene was appointed as {{wiki|Quartermaster General of the United States Army|quartermaster}} to help remedy this situation.
