Natanleod (died 508) was a 5th century Brittonic king.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Anglo-Saxon invasion[edit | edit source]

In the year 508, Natanleod and 5,000 of his soldiers were killed by the invading Anglo-Saxons led by Wessex's king Cerdic and his son Cynric. Following his death, the land as far as Charford was named Netley after him. Cerdic and his House of Wessex then took the throne, where it would pass through his line.[1]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

During the 870s, the Kingdom of Wessex's history was often studied in seminaries in the city of Wincestre. In one such seminary, an account of Natanleod's fall was found and read by the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir while she was in the city.[1]
