Moccus was an Anglo-Saxon man from Glowecestrescire in the 9th century.
In the 870s, he fell in love with a local woman named Ermina, who soon became pregnant with his child. When Ermina abruptly left their community with no trace, he went left in search of her. He eventually came to a nearby shrine, where he soon found Ermina and the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir. Once he saw the shieldmaiden had helped delivered their baby, named Eivor in gratitude for her aid, he vowed to stay with his new family, regardless of his reputation.[1]
Behind the scenes
His namesake comes from the Celtic god Moccus, as alluded to by Ermina.
