The Military Fort of Gla was built on top of the repurposed ruins of a Mycenaen-era fortified city[1] located on an island in Lake Kopais in Boeotia, Greece. Surrounded by a Cyclopean wall, the city featured a drainage system which emptied and filled the lake to irrigate the plain in the region.[2]
During the Peloponnesian War, the fort was visited by the Spartan misthios Kassandra, who was in pursuit of the Boeotian champion, the strategos Aristaios.[3]
