Merlin (Welsh: Myrddin) was the Druidic mentor of King Arthur during the 6th century.
Biography
Sometime after Arthur's death, Merlin took his sword Excalibur and hid it in an ancient cave, where it would remain until it was claimed by the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir during the 870s.[1]
Mythology
Some depictions of Arthurian legend held that Merlin was ruined by a fairy queen named Morrigan.[2]
Legacy
By the Industrial Revolution in Victorian England, there was an ale named after Merlin and Arthur, called Merlin & Arthur Imperial Stout. In 2015, Shaun Hastings tasted this beer via the Animus and then wrote a tasting note.[3]
