Maréchal was a Master Assassin of the French Brotherhood. At some point before the French Revolution, Louis-Joseph d'Albert de Luynes and three other Assassins were sent by the Mentor to recruit a skilled epeist and singer called La Maupin, but due to D'Albert's misogynist comments they failed.
As an injured d'Albert came back to make his report, Maréchal was the one to wrote it, trying to uncover the truth between D'Albert fantasized story and the more realistic version of his companions. At the end of the report Maréchal stated that D'Albert was an "ass" and that no more mission of recruitment was to be confided to him as no "porcelain should be entrusted to a baboon".
Eventually, despite the desastrous first contact, La Maupin joined the Brotherhood as Maréchal stated that he personally trained her to hone her acting skills despite D'Albert's prior statement that she had no potential as an Assassin Initiate.
