Marcourt (died July 1793) was a French general and a member of the Parisian Rite of the Templar Order who was active during the French Revolution.

Biography

Marcourt and several high-ranking members of both the French Army and the Templars began plotting a coup d'état in order to hasten the Revolution for the Templars. To this end, Marcourt began hosting a tournament to recruit skilled men into the Army in order to gain more manpower for the coup. Unbeknownst to Marcourt, his fellow conspirator Thomas-Alexandre Dumas was an Assassin ally. Dumas requested that the French Assassins take part in the tournament in order to get close to Marcourt and assassinate him and his associates. Stealing entry passes to the tournament, Arno Dorian and his fellow Assassins participated in the tournament, won it, and successfully killed Marcourt.[1]

Behind the scenes

Marcourt is a fictional character who appears in the 2014 video game Assassin's Creed: Unity, where he is voiced by the Canadian actor Victor A. Young.

Depending on the manner in which players complete the mission, Marcourt's response at the tournament's conclusion would vary. If the Assassins did not kill any soldiers while stealing the tournament entry passes, Marcourt remains oblivious to their movements, lowering his guard while congratulating them, allowing for the chance to quickly dispatch Marcourt and his men.

In contrast, if the Assassins had killed soldiers while stealing the passes, Marcourt becomes suspicious. Realizing that the Assassins had come for him, he retreats into his headquarters in anticipation for the inevitable confrontation. The Assassins overpower the guards and confront Marcourt and his fellow allies. The general laments that the Assassins devoted their combat potential to fighting the Templars instead of joining them, then attacks the Assassins but is eventually overpowered and killed along with his conspirators.
