imported>Sol Pacificus Guess it's not actually known if he was ethnically Han since the Tang had so many foreign immigrants (Gao Xianzhi himself was ethnically Korean) and his surname suggests a possible Persian, Sogdian, or Turk background. |

An Xiaolang (安小郎) was a Tang soldier who served in the 15th Squad of the Anxi Protectorate 7th Army, an elite crossbowmen unit. His squad was led by Zhang Huaigu,[1] and they fought at the Battle of Talas in 751[2] with the rest of the Tang forces under General Gao Xianzhi's command.[1] There, they suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Abbasids led by Ziyad ibn Salih.[2]
