Lorenzo Ghiberti (1378 – 1455), born Lorenzo di Bartolo, was a Florentine artist of the Early Renaissance.
In 1401, Ghiberti won a competition to design the doors of the Florence Baptistery, beating out fellow artist Filippo Brunelleschi. Later on, he lost against Brunelleschi to design the dome of the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore.[1]
