Lanz (1480 - 1503) was the leader of the Rome-based gang of thieves, the Cento Occhi.[2] He was killed by Ezio Auditore in the south west corner of the Centro district in Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
Biography
Lanz fell in love with a woman, and they were to have a baby. However, the baby was miscarried and Lanz fell into a depression. He joined the Cento Occhi gang, resorting to "pushing men off buildings." Some time later, he became the gang's leader.[1]
In 1503, he was visited by Fiora Cavazza, who came representing Cesare Borgia, shortly after he and his gang had robbed a Papal Carriage. At first, he paid no mind to the woman, but realized that she knew that he was responsible for stealing from the carriage after she threw a familiar knife at his feet. Fearing the Borgia, he offered to return the money, but was instead enlisted into their service, where he and the Cento Occhi would deliver several payments for them.[2]
That same year, Lanz's wife also fell into a depression, calling for him to return to her, or she would take her own life. She stood upon a rooftop, and planned to throw herself off when Lanz arrived, to remind Lanz of the man he once was. However, the Assassin Ezio Auditore found her first, and was able to prevent her from committing suicide. He reassured her, saying that she should not take the responsibility for Lanz's deeds, and that he would take care of Lanz for her.[1]
Ezio searched the Southwest tip of the Centro District for Lanz, and eventually found him free-running across the buildings. He pursued him until he came in range, and assassinated him with his hidden blade.[1]
Dialogue of Lanz's demise
Ezio encounters a distressed woman on a rooftop in the south west tip of the Centro district. She is standing at the edge of the building preparing to take her own life.
- Ezio: Careful...I have fallen from my share of rooftops.
- Woman: I'm waiting for my Lanz.
- Ezio: Up here?
- Woman: He left me after our baby died. Joined up with the Cento Occhi (Hundred Eyes) gang. They say he kills now...pushes men from buildings! I tell them I don't believe it.
- Ezio: But you do.
- Woman: I do.
- Ezio: What will you say to him if he comes?
- Woman: I will jump.
- Ezio: Why should you pay for his crimes?
- Woman: My death will remind him of the man he once was.
- Ezio: He does not deserve your sacrifice. Where is Lanz?
- Woman: Up here...somewhere.
- Ezio: He will trouble you no more, Madonna (Madame).
Ezio locates Lanz perched on a rooftop.
- Lanz: Merda! (Shit!)
After a brief chase, Ezio assassinates Lanz, and lays him to rest.
- Ezio: Requiescat in pace. (Rest in peace.)
Database Entry
Date of Birth: 1480.
Profession: Thief.
I've found a brief mention of a thief in Rome called Lanz, who seems to be connected to a variety of domestic disturbances. According to Abstergo's files, Lanz ran with the Cento Occhi gang, which means "Hundred Eyes", I would assume that's a metaphor, but WATCH out.
