Lake Stymphalia, with Stymphalos on left

Lake Stymphalia is a lake in north-eastern Peloponnese, Greece. It's located by Stymphalos, and in classical antiquity laid in the Golden Fields region of Arkadia.

History[edit | edit source]

Mythology[edit | edit source]

According to Greek mythology, the swampy lake was home to the carnivorous birds, named after the lake. As the sixth of his tasks, the hero Herakles slew some of the birds with his poisoned arrows.[1]
