Kopis

The Kopis was a variation of the kopis sword used by the Spartan military in ancient Greece.

During the Peloponnesian War, the Spartan misthios Kassandra often found this sword in the inventories of blacksmiths or looted it from bodies and chests during her travels throughout Greece.[1]

Behind the scenes

The kopis, a weapon in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, is the default weapon used by the Spartan heavy soldiers in the game. Historically, [citation needed] the military leader and historian Xenophon recommended its use for mounted warfare, leading to its being the sidearm of choice for Alexander the Great's cavalry. Although the falcata from pre-Roman Iberia looks similar to a kopis, it is unclear whether it was an Iberian parallel to the Greek weapon or was inspired by it.
